I wanted to write this post a long time ago, even if I tried it too hard I was very busy in the past few months. However, yesterday I was listening to music and I came across Ben Harper's song. I realized last time I listened to his music was over a year ago... And I really like his music when I have to be focused on a project or making any piece that needs concentration.
A post that talks about hands & handmade needs a recipe that requires effort, for me making bread with your hands and arms is the most difficult one, it takes too long till all the ingredients are mix together. Este post lo quería haber escrito hace bastante tiempo, pero incluso si lo intentaba varias veces, siempre estaba ocupada, sobretodo los últimos meses. Sin embargo, esta misma tarde estaba escuchando música, cuando de repente me crucé con una canción de Ben Harper. Enseguida me he dado cuenta de que hacía alrededor de un año que no lo escuchaba.. Y realmente, me encanta su música cuando necesito estar concentrada en un proyecto o realizando un trabajo que requiere de gran concentración. Un post que habla del trabajo manual, de las manos, es imposible no pensar en una recerta que requiera de una gran esfuerzo manual; y para mí, de las más costosas son las recetas para realizar masa de pan, donde todos los ingredientes tienen que estar perfectamente mezclados.
I've been working lately on a wide range of projects, Kishboo's orders, a small architectural project... I usually spend my free time in Kishboo, a personal project that I love. Kishboo needs this considerable amount of time because my screen printing process is completely handmade, I don't use any machine that could help me. I personally select one by one the leather, fabrics, then they are prepared and cut by me. I think these little features of my work are the ones that you, kishboo clients, love and give value. Jose Bravo came by my studio and he captured my meticulous work and how my hands talk while I'm working. Thanks Jose to look at my work, to notice how I make may pieces and to discover new ways to express my process. Enjoy them...
Últimamente he estado trabajando en diferentes proyectos, pedidos de Kishboo, una pequeña reforma... Empleo bastantes horas de mi tiempo libre, sobretodo durante los fines de semana en este proyecto que adoro, kishboo. Esa dedicación es debido a que la estampación que realizo es completamente manual, no empleo ningún tipo de máquina para estampar, las pieles se seleccionan, cortan y preparan personalmente, así como los diferentes tejidos. Y creo que son estas pequeñas características las que hacen que vosotros, los seguidores de Kishboo valoren tanto mi trabajo. Jose Bravo durante su visita y acompañamiento en mi estudio, supo captar perfectamente mi meticulosa forma de trabajar y cómo mis manos dialogan mientras trabajan. This is a limited edition, and leather notebooks are made under request. We only use genuine leather from Spain and Ecocarta or canson covers, blank pages perfect for drawing, writing as a journal or sketchbook. Se trata de una edición limitada donde las libretas de piel, generalmente, se hacen bajo pedido. Empleamos únicamente piel de origen español, cubiertas ecocarta recicladas o de papel canson. There are sometimes in our life that we want to try something new. Screen printing has been a process that I wanted to learn since long time ago. Even when I lived in Toronto I asked my friends to teach me, and they did. However, almost a year ago, I decided to engage myself in a workshop at the Arts and Fine School in Valencia. It was a good decision, Mar Malota and Jonay where incredible teachers, I enjoyed the great wokshop everyday. To try something new requires to add a little pinch of pepper to any project ... like adding some pepper to french fries...
Hay veces en la vida que queremos probar con algo nuevo. La serigrafía es un proceso qie siempre me ha interesado y he querido aprender. Incluso cuando vivía en Toronto les pedí a mis amigos que me dieran alguna clase que otra, y así hicieron. Sin embargo, casi hace una año, decidí apuntarme a un curso de serigrafía aplicada en la Facultad de Bellas Artes de Valencia. Resultó ser un taller muy gratificante y además me encantó al estar desarrollados por buenos profesores, Mar Malota y Jonay. Probar con algo nuevo es como añadir un pellizco de pimienta a cualquier proyecto ... como echar pimienta a las patatas fritas ....
First thing first. We had to develop a project, that was the most interesting thing in the workshop, and something that i'm use to. It's not only going to "classes of" and "learn that" is more than that it's a project in the meantime that you experiment, faile, try, create and get something.
I had an idea since long time ago (maybe since I was living in Toronto), I really wanted to try my designs on fabrics, and why not to try on something different than cotton... That was the second thing I liked most at the workshop.... open minded about materials.
Lo primero es lo primero. Desarrollar un proyecto, esto fue de las cosas más interesantes en el taller, y algo a lo que estoy acostumbrada. Significa que no sólo "vas a clases de" y "a aprender sobre", es más que eso, es un proyecto que te permite experimentar, fallar, probar, crear y obtener un resultado.
Hacía tiempo que me rondaba una idea (puede que desde que estuve en Toronto). Quería probar a realizar/estampar mis diseños sobre tejido, y ya que estábamos probar con algo diferente al algodón... Eso fue otra de las cosas que me gustó mucho del taller... posibilidad de experimentar libremente.
Kishboo creates collections, Kishboo creates storys, so it was really easy, Peaks & Cactus came straight into my mind. I had been drawing Cacti, succulents, desert landscape during weeks before the workshop... while I was developing the collection one person came into my mind, Núria, she is part of the brand Numon (accesories made of vintage fabrics) and I thought it would be perfect to work with. She has a big expertise in sewing. Working with Numon was easy, she knows really well what to do and she understood since the beginig the result that Kishboo was looking for. Kishboo crea colecciones, crea historias, así pues fue muy fácil dar con la colección Peaks & Cactus. Había estado dibujando antes del taller una serie de cactus, crasas, paisajes inspirados en el desierto ... y mientras desarrollaba la colección una persona me vino a la mente, Núria, parte principal de Numon (bolsos con historia realizados con tejidos vintage) y pensé que sería perfecta para poder trabajar con ella. Además ella tiene una gran experiencia en la costura. Trabajar con Numon ha sido sencilo, ella sabe siempre qué hacer y propone cómo solucionarlo; además entendió bien desde el principio lo que Kishboo estaba buscando.
After creating the leather purses, 100% cotton pouches arrived! They are perfect for big shoulderbags, beach bags or just them as handbags. Keys, cellphones, business cards, little purses ... fit perfectly inside! For sure will be more collections to come. ps: since Numon is a vegan brand, new leather purses will be made only by Kishboo. Although, it has been a pleasure to work with her! :D Tras crear los monederos de piel, llegaron las bolsas de algodón 100%!! Éstas son perfectas para llevarlas dentro de maxi bolsos, capazos para ir a la playa o simplemente como bolso de mano. Llaves, móviles, tarjetas, monderos... y más, caben dentro de ellas! Desde luego habrán más colecciones por venir. pd: Numon es una marca vegana, por lo que a partir de las siguiente colecciones, se realizarán únicamente por Kishboo. Aunque ha sido un placer trabajar con ella! :D
Hi there my friends, I'm here again.... sorry for these months without no words here, I think writing is much more complicated for me than drawing or taking pictures, but I know that it's better when I explain my projects here, then you can unterstand them as I do. I've chosen -A house is a home- since this is part of Kishboo and I have to take care of it , as part of a house that when you change, design and decorate it becomes "a home" (besides I'm a huge fan of Ben Harper). There' s no better way to start again with a recipe of my favourite meal/food/ edible bean.... Chocolate, dark chocolate, even better if is handmade and organic.If i think about dark chocolate, my home comes into my mind. Como si fuera una parte de una casa, que tras cambiar, redecorar, rediseñar, se convierte en "hogar" (además de ser una super fan de Ben Harper). Por supuesto no veo mejor que empezar de nuevo con mi comida preferida y que la asocio a mi casa, a mi hogar; el chocolate negro; y si es trabajado artesanalmente y orgánico, mejor que mejor.
I found out about "Ben & Ellen Harper - Childhood Home" last spring, since then I love to listen to it when I need a peaceful evening after a long day. I've posted these three images as they are part of my everyday tasks. My day usually starts with a healthy, organic if it's possible and local (at least from Spain) breakfast. Descubrí lo último de Ben Haper y su madre Ellen - Childhood Home- la pasada primavera, desde entonces, me encanta escucharlo tras un largo día de trabajo y buscando un poco de paz en las últimas horas del día. He subido estas tres imágenes que recogen parte de mis quehaceres diarios, en un día normal. Mi día, generalmente, comienza con un buen desayuno, saludable, ecológico - si es posible - y de procedencia local (al menos de la península).
I usually go for a walk early in the morning - if I have to go to the post office- or before the sunset. That's very important when your studio is part of your home. There are always plants, trees or flowers waiting for a picture.
Generalmente salgo a andar, indispensable para las personas que trabajamos en el estudio y éste forma parte de nuestra casa. Así que aprovecho para dar un largo paseo cuando voy a correos o bien antes del atardecer. Siempre hay plantas o árboles que admirar y esperando a sacarles una foto.

Y estas lindas patitas, son las patitas de Misi Moon, mi "gortita amorosa" adora dormir sobre mis piernas. My mum is a "desert" woman, like lizards she liked sunbthing when I was little, she spent hours at the beach while I was playing on the sand. I'm a water lady, I loved playingon the sea shore (Meditterranean sea), swimming and building sand castles. So this song matchs perfect this post. Mi madre es de "secano", como las lagartijas, le digo yo, le encantaba tomar el sol cuando yo era pequeñita, pasaba horas en la playa mientras yo jugaba en la arena. Yo soy una chica de agua, me encantaba jugar en la orilla (quién no ha saltado las olas un millón de veces), nadar y construir castillos (marranear con la pasta de arena y agua). Oh yes, this is it, the recipe for this post, my mum is a huge fan of "Pan Quemaos" and her daughters (we) too. It's typical to eat them only during Easter, but I have to say, we usually eat them one month before and... sometimes later. There's a town in my region famous for their Pan Quemaos, so I've decided to post the recipe from there (sshhh... there are recipes also incredible in other towns too). This is the first time that I post a recipe in Spanish, but this time is all about local production and sustanibility, so what would it be better than a good recipe of Orxata Valenciana? Orxata = Horchata is a sweet drink that comes from a tuber that we harvest in my region. If you drink Horchata check that it has been raised in our area not even outside Spain. So why only constellations??? Constellations is a very special collection for me, the inspiration comes from personal experiences...When I was a child two things came into my mind looking at the night sky: Triying to find all the shapes that they were supposed to be out there and thinking about all the Sci-fi movies that my parents loved.
My idea... Sparks and darkness, lines and dots. A black canvas where every little light is a star, stars are joined by lines creating constellations, so geometry keeps them together. Ebony as a black canvas drawing geometrical shapes, where some gemstones give them brightness.
¿y porqué Constellations? Constellations es una colección muy especial para mí, la inspiración procede de experiencias personales.. Cuando era niña y miraba el cielo nocturno (cosa que me encanta hacer de mayor) dos cosas venían a mi cabeza: Intentar encontrar todas la formas que supuestamente formaban las estrellas/constelaciones y todas la películas de Ciencia-ficción que a mis padres les gustaban y por tanto, yo veía.
Mi idea.. destellos de luz y oscuridad, líneas y puntos. Un lienzo negro donde los puntos de luz son las estrellas, las estrellas se unen mediante líneas creando constelaciones, así la geometrías las mantiene unidas. El ébano como lienzo que va recortando la geometría, donde pequeñas piedras le dan brillo.
I'm based in Valencia- Spain, again, so I decided to get all my sources locals, so every supplier is from my region/Spain, I control the whole process, I go to buy the "raw" wood, then with my dad's help the process starts (i couldn't make this project without his knowledge), prepping the wood, designing the pieces and programming the machines, don't think that then the pieces are done.. oh no.. .this is NOT a laser cut, then comes the 3 sand processes, embedding the stones or paintng (this process is new I'm trying now ;) Every necklace comes with its own gold filled / plated chain and hypoallergenic, not only is nickel free but it's palladium filled too, all made here,in my region. So I made it! it's local, and I'm super happy!!!

Kishboo está establecido, nuevamente, en Valencia, España, así que para esta colección decidí que todos mis proveedores fueran locales o al menos de España. Desde ese momento controlo todo el proceso, primero la selección de la madera, se utiliza al máximo para obtener la menor pérdida de este preciado material, a partir de ahí la ayuda de mi padre comienza, sin él este proyecto hubiera sido imposible, se comienza el diseño, estudio de piezas, la programación, las pruebas con las máquinas... pero ah! aquí no acaba, esto no es un corte con láser y acabado... noooo... empiezan TODOS los procesos de lijado, la incrustación de piedras y dentro de poco la aplicación de pintura :D
Cada collar está preparado con su maravillosa cadena bañada en oro de 24 kilates, sin níquel e hipoalergénica mediante la aplicación de paladio, todo hecho en la terreta :D
Así que lo conseguí!! Todo hecho de manera local!!! :D

En este post os voy a mostrar el trabajo de kishboo, en colaboración con Juna, de lettering sobre pizarras, como reclamo para un restaurante donde sirven estupendas copas de gintonics, cervezas y vinos de diferentes denominaciones de origen... Espero que os guste! Y qué mejor manera de empezarlo que con un cocktail especial - especiado :D This time I'm introducing kishboo & juna's work in lettering, and I really hope you like it! A restaurant which serves good tapas, cool gin tonics, beers and all kind of amazing spanish wines needed new and fresh air in its menu .... so maybe we can start this post with a special-spicy cocktail recipe.

El restaurante tenía una terraza existente que ha sido abierta a la calle para las estupendas noches de verano. La idea principal era que fuera visible, así que empezamos por el logotipo del nuevo restaurante sobre el murete lateral de la terraza. Fue una mañana dura, soleada y calurosa, pero con la ayuda de refrescos y una maravillosa sombrilla que nos dejaron... conseguimos acabar el logo.
The restaurant called, El chalet, had a nice space that has been turned into a street open patio for the fresh and amazing summer nights. The main goal was that the logo had to be clear and visible from the street on the side wall. So... here we were....working on a sunny and hot morning helped by fresh soft drinks and a big sun umbrella , and we made it! oh yeah! :D
El resultado final fue bastante bueno! Luminoso y visible sobre el muro blanco.

La terraza sólo dispone de una pared para colgar las pizarras, debido a las dimensiones de ésta y los huecos existentes disponibles, se preparan tres pizarras a medida para dicho espacios y orientadas según su posición en el muro. La descripción de ellas se realiza de manera genérica para que el cliente tenga una idea general de lo que puede tomar, así los chicos del restaurante les pueden aconsejar :D
Pásate por la barra de El Chalet, para tomarte un estupendo gintónic!! en la L'eliana / Valencia.
The patio has just one wall available to hang anything, blackboards, lights... so they are custom made -lettering and dimensions -. Their description is a general menu, in order to customers can ask and they can be suggested by the bar tenders :D

Siempre hay un making-of de cualquier proceso creativo... en este caso, en el estudio y acompañada de Coco fue bastante entretenido. Aquí podéis ver que todas las letras son a mano o "a pata" verdaderas..jeje...
